This, by far, is my favorite beer. It's tough to describe and easy to drink...but only if you enjoy a boozy flavored coffee beer. It pours dark (almost black) with a light brown foam that disappears reasonably slowly. It smells like a light roasted coffee. This beer is boozy, so one is usually enough. This beer is hard to find because it is release in late March. I was able to try it last time I was in Michigan, but I also was able to find it in April (2017) in Total Wine (finally!). Nothing made me happier until I realized how much I was going to pay. Worth every penny.
Appearance ( )
KBS pours almost black with a brown head. The head dissipates rather slowly.
Smell ( )
Slight roasted coffee smell begins the excursion. It smells a little boozy, but doesn't overpower the smell. I did not smell any hops, nor did I taste any.
Taste ( )
KBS starts with a coffee flavor, quickly followed by chocolate and then the bourbon kicks in. It subsides rather quickly. Make sure you let this beer warm up a bit before fully enjoying. I also found it interesting with a brownie or a chocolate chunk style cookie. I've eaten both while drinking this beer and both only add to the enjoyment of this beer.
Mouthfeel ( )
Mouthfeel could best be described as happiness in a beer. It is a bit heavy and doesn't let go until it's gone. You must not drink this right out of the fridge...it needs to warm a bit before drinking.
Overall Impression ( )
I absolutely love this beer. It tastes awesome, makes me happy, and wish I could find another one like it to fill in the rest of the year. Waiting until spring each year make this beer taste even better, but I could enjoy it more often.
